Volunteering at Subiaco AFC
On Sunday, September 8th my football team played their last match of the season. I play in the U-17 Premier girls league with my club, Subiaco AFC. This weekend, together with a few other players on my team, I was asked to help out with a 'wind up' regarding the end of the season for the whole club. We spent about two hours operating the fairy floss machine and handed it out to the people attending.
I had never worked with a fairy floss machine before and was quite anxious when trying it for the first time. Towards the end, we started getting the hang of it but it took us a while. By the end of our shift we ended up having a lot of fun and a good laugh. We were also covered in fairy floss from head to toe, but with all agreed that it was definitely worth it.
By doing this action activity, I felt like it reflected on mainly three of my eight learning outcomes. I recently injured my self and won't be able to play football for nine months, so by still supporting my club and its events by doing the most action I am physically able to do, I feel like I show a lot of perseverance and commitment in my activities.
I have also undertaken a new challenge by trying something I had never done before and have had a very positive experience from it. Similarly, one of my goals for CAS was to get more involved in the local community and be more socially interactive, and by doing this activity, I felt that I have partially met this goal.
On top of that, I have also met new people that were also volunteering for the club and we worked very well together because we couldn't have operated the fairy floss machine without each others help, it definitely required good teamwork.
